Friction analysis of engines and gearboxes
Reducing friction power losses in engines is always an up to date topic to meet increasingly strict fuel efficiency targets. However, not only the amount of friction plays a crucial role in this context, but also its quality, that is whether harmful metal-metal contact occurs.
State-of-the-art simulation methodology combined with extensive experience related to automotive multigrade lubricants allows accurate and reliable predictions of the lubrication conditions in the piston assembly, journal bearings of the crank train and many more. Detailed validations with experimental data confirm that the in-house developed simulation methods are indeed highly capable and provide a solid basis for further optimizations.
